Washington, D.C. Implant Dentistry

Have you been considering dental implants but aren't sure if they're the right option for you? Implants offer benefits that other tooth replacement options don't. The dentists of Revive Neuromuscular Aesthetic Dentistry, serving the Washington, D.C., Chevy Chase, Bethesda, and Alexandria areas, share a few facts about dental implants.

What are dental implants?

Dental Implants in Washington, D.C., Chevy Chase, Bethesda, and Alexandria

Implants are one of the best tooth-replacement options available, and our Washington, D.C. dentists frequently recommend dental implants for patients missing one or more teeth.A dental implant is composed of three parts: a tiny titanium post, a metal abutment on top of the post, and a restoration (usually a porcelain crown, a porcelain bridge, or cosmetic dentures) The titanium post is anchored into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. The metal abutment rests on top of the gums to anchor the artificial tooth. The implant and the artificial tooth work together to provide a stable, lasting fit that is difficult to achieve with tooth-supported restorations.

Why choose our implant dentists?

Revive is unique among dental practices offering implants in the Bethesda, Alexandria, and Chevy Chase areas because dental implants are our specialty. Drs. Yazdani and Mortazie have specialized training in implantology as well as in neuromuscular and cosmetic dentistry. This allows our team to treat complex cases and formulate the best treatment plan for each patient's unique needs. Our dentists remain abreast of the most recent developments in implant dentistry so that they can provide services of the highest caliber. We also used advanced technology, including sedation dentistry and the K7 Evaluation System, which is unavailable at many other practices in the D.C. area.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Patients from all over the Bethesda, Alexandria, and Chevy Chase areas contact us for dental implants because of the advantages of implant-supported crowns, bridges, and dentures. Dental implants are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to tooth-supported restorations since they:

  • Feel just like natural teeth.
  • Allow patients to enjoy their favorite foods without pain or irritation.
  • Do not slip or shift like tooth-supported dentures, bridges, and crowns.
  • Minimize the need for repairs to the restoration.
  • Can improve a person's self-confidence.
  • Can last for many years with proper maintenance.
  • Prevent problems that can result from gaps in the teeth (including shifting of the teeth, deterioration of the gum and bone tissue, and diminished facial support).
  • Do not rely on the surrounding teeth, preventing damage to them and makes the restoration amazingly stable.
  • Are worth the expense. Although there is a sizeable initial investment, implant-supported restorations require minimal maintenance and sustain oral health much more efficiently than other options.

Placement of Dental Implants

Dr. Shila Yazdani and Dr. Michael M. Mortazie have created an ideal environment for placing implants at our office in Washington, D.C.  Placement of dental implants takes about two office visits - one to place the implants and a second to place the abutment and the artificial tooth. These visits can occur several months apart, depending on how quickly the implant site heals.

In the first visit, in some cases, the dentist may use SimPlant® technology to plan the implant placement surgery. Next, he or she applies a local anesthetic. Once the mouth is completely numb, the dentist makes a tiny incision in the gum tissue through which the implant is gently inserted into the jawbone. Finally, the gum tissues are closed, and the implant site is allowed to heal. The healing process can take anywhere from three to six months, during which time our team carefully monitors the implant site.

When the gum and bone tissues have healed, the patient returns to our office to have the artificial tooth placed. In this visit, the dentist begins by administering a local anesthetic. Next, he or she carefully uncovers the implant so that the top portion is exposed. The dentist then affixes the bridge, crown, or denture to the implant.
